Hello everyone. As you may have noticed, The Greening has become quieter and smaller over the course of the last few months, and that the game has become inactive outside of mod plots. Which have also been having less and less engagement.

We have been trying our best to get the game back on it’s feet since the head mod left the game in our hands and ran, but it’s become apparent that our efforts are not enough. And due to a combination of struggling to keep things running, the holiday season and real life stressing us out for both personal reasons and recent world events, we have become burnt out and unable to keep the game going.

While we could ask for help ourselves, the obvious lack of interest has made it clear that it’s best to close the game completely. While we can’t make any promises, we may revive it back up in the summer with several changes to it.

We will allow you all to finish up your threads for the rest of December and January before we close our doors completely. We will also close the discord server at the end of January.

We thank you for those that have stuck around to the end and we wish you all luck in future games.

State of the Game for November

Greetings, everyone!

Thank you for your patience while we continue to work behind the scenes sprucing up information pertaining to the game world. Now that activity check has been completed, I'd like to discuss a few new gameplay mechanics that will be introduced in the coming months:

A bulletin board or quest system: This will be a list of prompts posted at the beginning of each month that will be offered by various NPCs, or small events that characters can stumble upon as they explore the Green. The purpose of these prompts will be to help flesh out the world and offer tangible rewards that characters can earn if they should choose to complete various quests. These can be undertaken at any time during the month and generally shouldn't be affected by any major events happening during the month, though they can be interrelated!

Rewards and Regains: Because AC is check-in only, rewards and regains will be handled in a much more informal manner compared to other games. Some rewards will be set items given to characters that complete quests or participate in events, though players will have the opportunity to request custom rewards or regains depending on the event. Threads do not necessarily have to be completed in order to request a reward, but please show that your character is making efforts to participate in events before linking threads for your requests!

That being said, do you prefer rewards to be requested and handed out during the monthly check-in, or a centralized page where players can request rewards and regains by linking to appropriate threads?

Now, a few updates regarding the state of the Green:

The World Serpent has gone into hibernation and its body is slowly melding into the surrounding landscape. Some of its exposed coils have essentially created a new mountain range, which has made travel between neighboring kingdoms difficult. This may negatively impact trade, especially with winter soon approaching, so the Stolen may be enlisted in future quests to help escort caravans in the coming months.

Characters who participated in the player plot All the Little Children will have received a woven bracelet that allows them to summon a faerie ring keyed to Schafburg once per day. This is a permanent item and will not disappear upon use, unlike the bracelets used during the Harvest Festival event. Characters will have the opportunity to power up the bracelet to be keyed to other areas and/or to increase the number of times per day it can be used as they participate in more events. This item will be made available to other characters through the Faerie Market for trade, or offered as a reward for completing other quests.

Despite the changing of the seasons, the autumn weather has been unseasonably warm, so much so that locals have been commenting about it rather frequently. Many among the lower class fae are unsettled by this, especially those who live in the farming villages. There are concerns this may affect the growing season next year, but most seem to be worried about the fact that Queen Titania's annual arrival to Pierced Heart might be delayed.

The courtiers seem split on the current events: some view the unseasonably warm weather as a welcome respite, while others worry about Queen Titania's reaction. Almost none of them seem worried about how these events might affect the surrounding environs, or what it might mean for next year's planting season. In fact, some think it might be beneficial if the growing season were extended!

Should the Stolen decide to ask around, they will learn that Queen Titania is Lord Auberon's twin sister, and that she rules over the Winter Court in the neighboring kingdom, beyond the Dragon's Teeth. Each year she travels to Pierced Heart to take up residence, along with her retinue, bringing winter in her wake. So long as she remains seated upon the throne, winter reigns across the Green, until she must return to her own kingdom in the spring.

December's event will focus on Queen Titania's arrival, and there will be some appropriately winter-themed quests and events in the coming months. The next TDM will be held in January, to give the mod team more time to work on organizing info pages and spruce things up for new arrivals!

Hey everyone!

In the next couple of days, we will be doing an activity check, but it will just be a check-in. We are aware that the taken page has some folks who left without leaving a drop post, so we wanna see who is still active. You don't need to worry about proving activity proof.

Also we will only do one major event in mid-November due to how busy most people doing this month, and to allow everyone to backtag into October's events. As well as to give a break to those who might be stressing out about recent current events going on in the US. We will provide more information on that event later.

I’ve been on hiatus for 2 months and unable to tag for nearly 11 weeks, and due to the uncertainty of resolution, I do not feel comfortable asking for an extended hiatus. player plot event: all the little children

All the Little Children

This is a player plot running on the 18th of October onward, ending on the 24th. All interested parties are invited to participate, and use this plotting post to set up plans for the log that will be posted.

This plot includes implied harm and/or death to children, along with non-graphic eye trauma along the lines of detachable eyes and their destruction.

TL;DR

Kids ten and younger have been kidnapped by a woman-snake spirit into a wheat maze filled with shapeshifting blood-attracted spirits. The fog that falls over the city and surrounding areas each night acts as a means of getting to the wheat maze with the children inside. Stolen can intentionally or accidentally find themselves at the maze, and help or hinder as they're inclined.

IC Intro Follow-Up!

Hello everyone! This is a quick follow-up to the third IC Intro post and a chance to offer feedback regarding the plot.

The results of the game of tag are in, and the winner is... Team Wolf! Y'all must have really tapped into your inner hunter in order to snatch all those bracelets, right? If your character was on Team Wolf and participated in the chase, please respond to the comment below. Results will be determined by RNG and the winner will be assumed to have collected the most bracelets, and therefore won the special prize offered by the people of Schafburg. You have until the Sunday, Oct 18th at 12 AM EST to respond, after which the results will be drawn and the winner will be messaged to receive their prize!

Anyone that participated in the chase will find a lovely little gift basket full of goodies waiting for them on their doorsteps, whether they live in the Castle or otherwise. How did they get there? Who knows... The gift baskets will contain an assortment of items, which may include: fresh apples, fruit preserves, a bottle of elderberry wine or cider, some herbal healing salve, jars of honey, a knitted scarf, etc. None of these items are magical in nature, though the food items are definitely of high quality and will taste as such. If your character has a good rapport with the people of Schafburg, they may have some personalized items included in their gift basket.

As a further announcement, there will be a player plot beginning the 18th of October and ending on the 24th. An OOC plotting post will be going up later today for players to hash out plans in they choose to have their characters participate. The Halloween mini-event will be scheduled for October 29th through October 31st, and will include a variety of prompts for players to choose from, since it's a casual free-for-all sort of event. Feel free to submit prompt ideas for this event, and they might be included in the list!

Finally, if you have suggestions for things you'd like to see in game, whether they be events or metagame narrative you want to see fleshed out more, new areas to explore, etc. please let me know!

good afternoon, y'all!

as you know, 2020's a weird and awful year, and it has taken its toll on me this last month or so. with that said, there's a few changes happening to the game (nothing scary, i think). first of all, we have two new mods! nikil will be our new list mod, and folkloric will be our new plot mod! i will personally be taking a bit of a step back, but i'll be ~around~, particularly in time for..

applications at the end of the month! they will be opening on schedule this month, and then closing again for the season until december. so if you plan to app another character or you know people interested in apping in, please make sure they know!

tdms will now, like apps, be quarterly. it's something we want to try out for now to see how it works, though we'll be reexamining the idea as things hum along to see how it works out.

lastly (for now), this is also a post-event check in! how did you like the last event? what were some cool things about it? what could have been done better? what are some things you'd like to see in the game in the future? would you like more horror or less? some humor, maybe? memes between events for levity, etc?

good afternoon, green beans!!

as i've probably proven pretty effectively, i could use some help with mod duties. the game's more active and has more mod involvement than i was originally planning (which is a good thing!), and frankly speaking, i am behind on some duties.

with that said, i'll be looking for three (3) helper mods-- specifically someone that likes and is willing to help keep track of the lists (taken, hiatus/drops, etc), and two plot/story/event mods willing to help with the event posts and tdms, and who don't mind taking a little initiative. you must CURRENTLY be in the game to apply.

if you have what it takes and you're enthusiastic about keeping the game running, please reply to this post with who you are, why you want to take up mod duties, your experience modding, and any other relevant details you can think of! comments are SCREENED, and i'll be taking applicants through wednesday of next week.
